Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 15, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information ReferMe collects, how we use it, and who we share it with.

1. What we collect

  • Contact info you give us: name, email, and phone number if you provide one.
  • Your resume, and details you tell us about target roles, companies, and locations.
  • Your LinkedIn connection (see section 3 below) and the outreach conversations that result from it.
  • Basic usage data (e.g. pages visited, actions taken in the product) so we can operate and improve ReferMe.

2. How we use it

We use this information to find jobs that match you, apply on your behalf, identify people who could refer you, send personalized outreach through your LinkedIn and email accounts, track your applications and conversations, and to operate, maintain, and improve the service.

3. Your LinkedIn access

We never store your LinkedIn email or password. Connecting your LinkedIn account gives ReferMe permission to send connection requests and messages through your own logged-in session, on your behalf — used only to send outreach and warm up referral requests. We don't use your LinkedIn connection to search for jobs or for anything else; job discovery runs through our own accounts, not yours.

4. The ReferMe Auto-Apply browser extension

The extension fills in job applications on your behalf using your ReferMe profile, resume, and cover letter, wherever you're applying. Here's exactly how that works:

  • It checks each page you visit, locally in your own browser, for signs that it's a job posting or application form (an "Apply" button, or fields like a resume upload). Nothing is sent to our servers just from browsing — only when you actually use the extension to fill in an application.
  • When you do, it sends the page's URL, title, and job description to ReferMe so we can generate a tailored resume and cover letter for that specific posting, then fills the form fields in your browser using your profile information.
  • It connects to your ReferMe account through a one-time pairing code, not your ReferMe password or session — you can disconnect it at any time from the extension's own menu.
  • It never reads or stores anything from pages unrelated to a job application, and it never submits an application without either your explicit approval setting or, where you've turned that on, our confidence checks passing first.

5. Who we share it with

We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers that keep ReferMe running — hosting and database infrastructure, and our payment processor to handle billing — each bound to use your data only to provide that service to us, and never for their own purposes.

6. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active, plus a reasonable period afterward for legal, accounting, or dispute-resolution purposes. You can ask us to delete your account and data at any time (see section 7).

7. Your rights

You can ask us to access, correct, export, or delete the personal information we hold about you at any time by reaching out via the Contact link in the footer.

8. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your data — resume, LinkedIn access, and job search — scoped entirely to your own account.

9. Children's privacy

ReferMe isn't intended for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect data from minors.

10. International users

ReferMe is available in multiple countries and prices accordingly. Depending on where you're located, your information may be processed in a different country than the one you live in.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do.
